Holly Goddard Jones is in town tonight to do a reading with my friend and mentor, John Dalton, and I recently found this interview with her. For anyone who likes to learn about how other writers work, this is a good one:

10 Reasons Why St. Louis Is Actually Great and We’re Total Assholes

10 Reasons Why St. Louis Is Actually Great and We’re Total Assholes

I’ll admit it: sometimes I hate St. Louis. I’ve lived here for 15 years and I still can’t seem to make good friends with anyone who is a true native. I’m from southern Missouri–“out state,” as it were–and it’s more than once come to my attention that native St. Louisans know pretty much *nothing* about the rest of the state. For instance, when I tell people that I’m from the Ozarks, they smile and nod enthusiastically and tell me they know all about the Ozarks. I mean, they drove through Arnold once! Gah.

All that said, if you’ve been paying attention to the rantin’ and ravin’ that went on during the post-season playoffs, you’ll know that the folks in LA might’ve gotten a little carried away with their St. Louis bashing. And, to their credit, they acknowledge it here:

It’s old news now, but isn’t it fantastic to see Alice Munro win the Nobel Prize for Literature? She’s a constant inspiration to me.
